OMG: I think I've fallen in love with my best friend, but he's in the same cohort class as me. We depend on each other a lot academically. Is it too risky to go for it?
I would suggest waiting until the end of final year before going for it. If he does not like you, it will get real awkward real fast, and you will end up losing out on a lot of academic support (and so will he/she). I would suggest waiting until you don't have that dependence prior to making a move to mitigate that risk and any resulting awkwardness. There's a reason people say not to mix business with pleasure.
If he liked you that way, he would have asked you out. If he likes you and hasn't asked you out yet, he's a pussy.
