OMG: That WPIRG vote last night was in no way an act of democracy, but instead was a show of who could get more people to come out. I do not believe that this is what the greater population wants. This was demonstrated by the mass of students who left right after the vote. FEDs needs to listen to all students and a referendum is what it takes that's what needs to be done.

  1. Hey Dumbo,

This is exactly what democracy is, unfortunately. Listen, I agree, WPIRG sucks, but if you can't get enough people out to vote for a referendum on making their fee opt-in, then you lose. End of story It has NOTHING TO DO WITH FEDS other than they had to put it on the agenda. Feds has rules around referendum's. Meet the rules and it will happen. Go out and get those signatures and present your petition. Otherwise, convincing the board is going to be useless since the motion was voted down, right now that is the majority and they aren't going to go against that imo. Suck it up and go get what you want, or fuck off back to class.

    1. The Board would never call a referendum on another organization's fee that they don't administer in the first place. If anyone other than a GM would, it'd have to be Council.

  3. I'm sorry but this is what a democracy looks like. Just because you didn't win doesn't mean you can cry foul at the results.

I'm sorry but how is this not a representation of what people want? They showed up didn't they? They took the time to come to campus, sit and wait for the vote to occur, so how is this not democratic? Are you saying that only people who stayed for the whole meeting should have their votes counted? How is that at all fair?

Maybe the Opt-In campaign should have been more influential in bringing out supporters for the GM, clearly the WPIRG side was. You're just crying now that they worked harder than you to get the results they wanted.

    1. I am on the side of WPIRG but feel that the greater population needs to be consulted on all areas and if a referendum is the best way to do that as compared to a general meeting then that's what should happen.
