Spoke to someone in ESS today about this. Apparently in Waterloo it's damn-near impossible to find a venue to fit the ~400 graduates, few venues can accommodate that size given their budget. Plus, each year has vastly different turnouts. Hard to determine how many people will be buying tickets each year.
I know it's kind of shitty, but it's not like they are plotting against us or something! Chill da fuck out and get your tickets earlier.
From attending other grad balls this year. I can name you tons of venues that can fit the entire graduating class. Somehow Science, math, and engineering can have bigger venues. Yes it would cost more but at least the venue would look nicer and more formal too.
People in Science were pissed about the small venue, shitty music, location of food, table screw ups. Student Society efforts have definitely gone down. Science had a hard time selling tickets cause the price was ridiculous. Environment students will complain cause tickets were cheap.
They started selling to lower year students (who were not graduating) before all the actual graduates had purchased tickets. It was a mistake, they should have waited a bit to make sure grads got first dibs.

ReplyDeleteGrads were able to buy tickets a week prior to opening up to other students. Get your facts right before complaining.
DeleteAlso there's a problem of privacy and students don't get access to records.
