OMG: Idea: What if we did what they do in a lot of asian countries, and wore surgical masks over our faces when we have to go out while sick? Even if all you have is a cold, wearing a mask is a great, courteous way to avoid spreading your germs to other people, in the event you can't just stay home until the sickness is gone.
the mask is there to protect the wearer, not other ppl. you'll still spread the germs if you wear it.
ReplyDeleteI think you're wrong. It goes both ways.
DeleteNo those mask protects others from your aerosol. Only the air tight seal masks protect you from outside germs.
DeleteIt's a great idea but, because it isn't a social norm here, people tend to just assume that you've got a serious disease (or are a mental patient) if you go around with a surgical mask here.
ReplyDeleteBecause some of us are not sick, but suffering from different issues, like allergies, where a surgical mask actually makes it worse. In my case, it increases the likelihood of coughing when my allergies are aggravated, meaning that I might vomit into said mask.
ReplyDeleteAlso, surgical masks are popular in Asian countries mostly because they help filter the crap out of the air, and if you have ever breathed Tianjin or Beijing air, its like smoking a carton a day.
DeleteSome people should wear masks all the time
