OMG: This is so typical of universities (I feel it here at Waterloo too) the supposed bastions of free speech and open inquiry. http://www.torontosun.com/2015/09/14/posters-urge-white-students-union-on-to-campuses There are students associations based on race, heritage, religion, gender etc. etc. But a white students association? FORBIDDEN!!! (As an aside, there was NOTHING on the posters that hinted at white supremacy.)

  1. Yep. I would have to agree that this is beyond reproach. Why allow other organizations to exclude others, but not allow a white group to be exclusive? It will just cause resentment and probably force the group underground.

    1. Your statement is incorrect, ethnic groups on university campuses do not exclude others. For example the Filipino Student Association celebrates Filipino culture, however it is not an exclusive club and anyone is allowed to join regardless of race.

  2. This is stupid. There is no unified "white culture" or "white heritage" for this association to celebrate. "White" describes dozens of different nations that have nothing in common. The only thing you will be celebrating is that your skin has low melanin pigment, which is a fucking stupid thing to be proud of.

Which is exactly what the black student associations do save for 'high' pigment vs low.

It's still fucking stupid regardless of what the black students are doing.

    3. @2b "Two Wrongs Don't Make A Right" doesn't really apply here since one of the wrongs isn't seen as a wrong by the institution.

  3. Have you read their sociopolitical beliefs?

    1. Yes, and I don't see anything inflammatory in there. Certainly nothing more inflammatory than I've read from other student groups.

  4. In fact, there is Ukrainian and Russian club at UW. Please, think before you type, OP

    1. You should do the same as you clearly missed my point.

    2. I know most of the clubs on this campus... but I don't remember a "Black Students Association." I guess there's a Caribbean Students Association... but that's about as inoccuous as a Russian Club. So....

    3. Does this Ukrainian club perhaps bake perogies by chance? If so, I may have to drop by.

  5. At York, where this caused such a stir, there is Black Students Association and a Muslim Students Association. A White Students Association is 'too much' though, apparently. Are post-secondary institutions have become so fucking lame it's ridiculous. Kowtowing to certain groups and running in fear when they are upset. Look at this school...a tiny group of protestors protest Christie Blatchford's appearance and the whole thing gets called off.

  6. Whites are not a repressed minority and therefore do not require their own student union. They don't feel ostracized or have a need to seek out other whites because of this. Why is this hard to understand?

    1. Wow are you ever out of touch with current events. Whites, especially white Christians, are widely mocked and vilified and, I might add, assumed to be offenders. Remember the stupid shit about microaggressions?

    2. Lol give me a break. A white Christian can walk into a store without being followed around by security because they "look" like they might steal something. A white Christian has no problem getting a membership at a country club because their skin is the "right" colour. A white Christian can walk down the street without people yelling "nigger" or "towelhead" or "go back to your own country" at them from their cars. Go home and nurse your bruised little white privelege you racist prick.

    3. I'm just going to put this out there 6b. I've never in my life seen someone who wasn't black call someone a nigger. Black people do it all the time though and this used to confuse me as a child...and now.

    4. 6c you clearly still have the intellect of a child. Nice strawman.

    6. huh, I'm 6c and I was just wondering why this was the case. I wasn't arguing anything so I don't think the strawman fallacy applies. By the by, there are plenty of "children" with more intellect than me or you. I think "imbecile" or something similar would work better there.

  7. If you want to join a white person's club join the Young Conservatives.

    1. There are plenty of minorities and LGBTQ in the Conservative camp, thankyouverymuch.

...Oddly enough, the conservative minority groups have actually been the ones causing trouble lately... like the muslim parents pulling their kids out of school due to the sex ed curriculum.

  9. Those other groups have pretty good reasons to organize. Racialized Student Collective at Ryerson exists because its members are quite often actively discriminated against in different aspects of their lives. While I disagree with that organizations' specific actions towards white people (namely the incident with reporters from the school newspaper being barred entry to an event), I agree with their foundation on those grounds.

A white students union doesn't really have as legitimate a reason to organize. What would be the purpose of the formation of a white students union besides simply having a student union that is only for white people? At least other groups have goals besides simply existing.

And that's for you to determine?

  10. 9a The burden of proof is on those who want the white students union in the first place. Please state compelling examples as to why this group is necessary. Because to everyone with sense it looks like just a group for butthurt enjoyers of white privelege to gather and cry amongst themselves about how they feel sooooo outnumbered in their gated neighborhood where 2 black families just moved in.

    1. 'The burden of proof is on those who want the white students union in the first place' They have to prove something to you, or anyone else, why? Because you think so? And until they provide a satisfactory explanation to the SJWs it's okay to tear their posters down?

Oh, and btw, it's hard for you to believe but I know a great many white people who grew up with fuck all in terms of privilege.

  11. White people are actually becoming the minority in certain places, especially at waterloo. A lot of math and CS classes are majority international and they only ever hangout with their own and dont actively speak English. I have spoke to a few of them and they actively refuse to be your friend because either they are antisocial or see you as someone who doesnt put academics as the be all end all. I can feel for them how they might feel left out the same way an immigrant can feel left out in a majority white place. In every non-white owned business, they only ever hire people of their descent, clear racial discrimination here. To top it all off, white people are demonized as being the ones who discriminate and oppress others. This is all coming from a non-white person if that matters.
