OMG: I wake up, motivate myself to study even though I feel like I am going to fail, I get a coffee and go to DP. 15 min later, someone brings smelly Asian food. I really can't stand the smell so I am feeling nauseous and can't study anymore. It's not my job to police students studying in DP, and I also can't fix anything. It should take at least an hour or two for the smell to become tolerable. I honestly can't understand it. How can anyone be so inconsiderate?

  1. It may be smelly to you but it doesn't mean it is for that student. I can't speak for that person but sometimes we're not even aware our foods have a particularly strong smell because we're so used to eating it. The fact that you had to point out it's asian food makes me wonder if you would've still complained if it was white food because it's not just asian food that can do that. I once bought a sandwich from Subway and was eating it while studying in an empty classroom. Two students then walked in and complained that the room smelled of my sandwich.

    1. Whether it is smelly or not, you shouldn't bring food to a library.

  2. Actually, DC specifically allows food that is not hot or odorous. So like chocolate bars, chips and sandwiches (that don't reek of tomato). That said if the person brough in a meal like it sounds, most asian food is hot and oderous so I would imagine they are in the wrong. But almost every university has a culture where student give no fucks and bring food despite the signs. If it bugs you get a librarian to kick them out, else just ignore it or move to a different location like the rest of us.

    1. I've only seen those signs at DC. Not sure if they have it at DP...

Also agreeing with 1. I personally hate the smell of coffee (i know. I'm sorry.) and it makes me nauseous too. But there is no way to stop everyone from drinking coffee in libraries. Sad.
