OMG: I come from rural-ish Ontario. My parents have always been a little racist but not openly racist. We have very few colored families in my town and my parents love them since we've known them for ages. They do have issue with people they don't know, not sure why but they just do. I was always raised that I'd be in trouble if I were to ever date someone non white. I started dating someone non-white when I came to UW.
He was brown and I knew my parents would not be pleased so I hid it from them for the longest time. This summer I finally told them and invited him over to meet them. My parents were nervous as I told them I loved him and he could be the one. We're both graduating and moving into together come September. My parents met him and loved him. They were surprised how "white washed" he was. They expected him to be like an indian tech support guy but he ended up being super normal to them. My parents want him over more often now. It's funny because most often it seems like brown parents are the ones who would be strict about this stuff but his parents have known about me for years and love me
Aw, that's nice. Congratz :) Hope it continues going well for you.
