OMG: If you can not get a correct answer to a math problem (particularly proof problems), please do not write down pages of pages of whatever comes to mind with no logical connection. The marker will be irritated at the time wasted reading this and not be inclined to award marks. Just write whatever you have that makes sense, even if it's not complete; it will get you part marks more reliably.

  1. That may be true for how you mark, but in my experience, writing whatever usually gives more part marks than a few lines and stopping. Take it up with the other TAs and profs, because they're the ones who train students to answer questions in that way.

  2. I'm a professor and I like grading answers like this by writing a low mark something equally nonsensical, "Trombones! A herring! The Cretaceous Mass Extinction! Tic-toc, tic-toc!" And then when students ask me to explain my marking, I ask them to explain their answer.

  5. If they write BS just give it a 0 and write "See solutions". If they think they deserve more, they'll take it up with the grad TA.
