  1. Oh yes, honey, we're just here being beautiful for the sole purpose of your entertainment and dating needs. Sorry there aren't more of us, you're a really important guy in all of our lives.

    2. (I'm not 4, but I have an opinion)

As usual with these things 4a, context and timing is everything. There are times and places when it is absolutely inappropriate to hit on a girl - places where it's so inappropriate, it really *is* harassment (low-level harassment, but even so that doesn't make it okay). For instance, if I was a girl at silent study in the library, you wouldn't start trying to chat me up for a date, would you? ...If your answer to that question is "yes," then please GTFO.

But there are plenty of situations where it's okay, assuming you have some tact and you aren't totally creepy. We're both at a party, and you strike up a conversation? Totally appropriate, not even remotely harassment. I make an excuse to leave later, and you start following me home even though I didn't invite you? ...now it's creepy again.

      ...Degrees of appropriateness, that's all.
