OMG: I feel like I need to have "I am not one of those international students" tattoo-ed on my head or something. I was born and raised here, just unfortunately to super second generation Asian parents. Don't treat me like the rest of them, just because I look like them.

    Super second generation? I didn't realize there were varying degrees of second generation. What are you talking about?

      You can be second generation and assimilate with their original traditional roots, or you can conform to the other dominating culture. OP is probably referring to their parents not being traditionally Asian.

    Well as the dominant culture here is basically Chinese OP might consider themselves a "sub" second generation.

    On a serious note, I'm really sorry OP. The only pickup better than practicing my broken Mandarin on Asian girls is on those who don't actually speak. The awkward moment after provides a great excuse to buy you a drink. It's just a win-win for me every time.

    Why do you need it tattooed on your head? If you were born and raised here,doesn't your accent/english skills/mannerisms distinguish you from the immigrants who can barely speak english?

    Unless you grew up in an asian bubble in some suburb of the GTA, but if that's the case, maybe you're not as different from them as you think?

    Besides, I'm sure the non-sauga/scarb/markham/richmondhill second generation kids feel the same about you.
