OMG: Why do we have to submit a continuation interest-free form to SAFA every
6 months? Why can't UW/OSAP automatically update NSLSC? I just found
out I have to pay 6 months accrued interest on my OSAP even though I was
in school in the fall (coop now). I honestly didn't know and if I had
known I would have completed the form last term. An email notification
would have been nice. Anyone have this happen to them and is there any
way to appeal?
You mean you didn't read the fine print???
ReplyDeleteHappened to me too, no way to appeal :/
ReplyDeleteNSLSC does send an email. I already got mine for this past year. Maybe check your junk mail or something?
ReplyDeleteIt was stated when you got your loan. Its your responsibility. It's coop that causes all the confusion for the most part. You don't have regular school years so its on you to let them know you're back to class after 4 months of work.
ReplyDeleteCall and send a letter to NSLSC and try fighting it. I've been in a similar situation and find it ridiculous that this happens.
ReplyDeleteJust make sure it doesnt happen again by add NSLSC to your safe list on your email. It happened to me and there's no way to get more money until you pay the interest.
ReplyDeleteI thought they removed it once you sent the renewal form back.....
ReplyDeleteThey cannot remove the interest if the term is already completed.
DeleteSAFA also sends out and email with the Continuation of Interest Free form attached to it near the end of each term to remind students to complete it if necessary
ReplyDeleteI've never received such an email. Is it just sent to people who don't send the forms in? I've always known to send the firm in...
