OMG: I just want this to show up for future students. Be warned, if you think
you are renting from a different company, it's just a rebranding.
Example: kw4rent -> accommod8u (check whois lookup). It just makes me
so angry with the recent and rapid development of bad accommodations
and the gouging of students. Some of the prices are insane. Some of the
"older buildings" are now falling apart compared to the schools
residence which are still functional and can be cleaned (I say can
because I tried to clean where I lived cough...kw4rent)
Domus -> Sage
ReplyDeletewell accommod8u is advertised by kw4rent so that wasn't a surprise to me.. didn't know about domus -> sage though :O
ReplyDeleteI believe Sage is on their own now...they at one point had contracted Domus for rental help, but leases for their 2nd and 3rd building are done themselves
DeleteMaybe if you put your money where your mouth is things will change. I have always lived about a 5-10 min bus ride away from campus and have had great places for a decent rent and hint, none of them have had any association with these vulture companies. You think anything will change when there's plenty of people willing to pay exorbatant rent to be crammed in a sardine can? Get real, these companies are making money hand over fist.
ReplyDeleteOP: I've actually moved every 4 months, so I've tried a variety of different student condition and distances (except first year, rez). This term I wanted to live with some friends so I am renting what they want. You honestly can't avoid them if you want to be flexible and not tied down to a lease.
Deleteexorbitant
DeleteEven if you want to lease for a year or more, there's lots of places to live. People are so scared of living in old houses but I really don't see how its worse than student apartments that don't get cleaned between residents, have water leaking through the ceiling (new Sunview place), all amenities broken down, and cost over 600/month.
ReplyDeleteI'm in grad school now and in all my 7 years here I've never paid more than $550/month. All my places have been either livable or way better than the new apartments.
3 is right, people should stop renting at these places. Every cent that goes to them gives them more funds to tear down good places to live and build over-priced shit apartments.
A lot of residences are poorly maintained or not maintained at all because students keep wrecking them so they gave up. Sorry, but it's true. You often ruin it for yourselves.
ReplyDeleteOP: KW4Rent and Accommod8u advertise together so they're not hiding their partnership but I didn't know about Sage and Domus! Also, I've been living with KW4Rent for 2 years now and I like it, I know a lot of people aren't fans of large companies but they're good
ReplyDeleteIve lived at KW4rent and dont get the big deal. Yeah its more expensive than a house but ive never had any problems with them and overall have been pretty helpful. Havent heard too much about Accommod8u
