MODs: Last week we asked you what are the best places ON CAMPUS to get food. Now we want to know where are your go to places to get food OFF CAMPUS but near the university. We want to limit the scope to a 5 minute walk of the campus. So think places that are within the plazas, for example.
How it works: we will post a category and have you suggest the best of that category that Waterloo has to offer. We will then take all the suggestions and have you vote on them. The top 5 of the category will be posted in a new section of the site for future reference.
Suggestions will be opened till Monday. Voting starts Tuesday.
- Luv, MODs.

Sweet Dreams Tea Shop!
ReplyDeleteFor food? Really? I've only ever had drinks there.
DeleteTheir udon is good and sandwiches not bad.
Deletetheir service is slow as fuck and their drinks are probably on the lower end of the scale in waterloo.
DeleteThe sponge toast with taro butter is HEAVENLY
DeleteMcGinnis Front Row or Philthy's
ReplyDeletelol how long have you been out of Waterloo? Front Row closed down ages ago.
DeletePhilthy's closed down longer ago than Front Row, but thats where their humour lies.
DeleteWhat ever happened to Philthy's? I've seen the Joe Fromagio sign up there for years but it hasn't opened.
DeleteWhat about Mr. Sushi, Caesers, Mel's Diner, Happy Valley, The Firehouse?
DeleteMozy's Shawarma
ReplyDeleteShawerma Plus is where it's at doe.
DeleteChen's
ReplyDeleteChen's is pretty good, but do you remember what the name of the place that was there before Chen's? It was a Mexican restaurant, wasn't bad.
DeletePanda King, my favourite chinese food for white people
ReplyDeleteI know it is fast food, but Harvey's is straight up good quality every time for under $10. If I'm in a hurry I'll go there every time.
ReplyDeleteThis. Good quality fast food, friendly staff, seems well-managed overall. Plus they send coupons out in the mail pretty often or sometimes will give you the promo in store without one so you can usually get a meal for around 5 bucks.
DeleteBut they have sad white people food.
DeleteWell 6.b, I am OP and happen to be a white person. Sorry :(

DeleteLol at the attempt to get students to vote on the best places to eat. Students have no taste. Students will eat anything. My roommate ate unflavored Mr. Noodles out of a dirty saucepan with water that was microwaved to lukewarm because he was too lazy to wash a dish or wait till the water was hot. These are the kinds of people you are asking for the culinary prowess of.
ReplyDeleteso don't vote and fuck off.

For what it is, Mel's is average. Compared to everything else in the plaza, it is amazing.

ReplyDeleteThese Best of polls need a bit more criteria, everyone will end up listing off places they happen to go to most often, but everyone has their own criteria of what is their favorite - some people legitimately care about the quality of food, other people prefer places that have quicker service, and other people dont count fast food as "restaurants"....
