OMG: Who are you voting for, and why?

  1. I am voting Gold!

  2. Chris, Maaz, Stephane, and Ben. Or Carly. Fuck, I don't anymore, maybe just toss for that one.

  3. Carly. What a QT.

  4. Carly over Ben for sure now. Fusion is an absolute train wreck

  5. The only person who seem to know what they're doing are Chris and Maaz. Stephane doesn't even have a legit opposition which sucks since he hasn't really been put on the spot for what he did/didn't do this year.

  6. Fusion is a trainwreck waiting to happen. Personally, I would prefer Chris for president (though Baiju would also make a decent pres, Chris just seems to have it more together), Jessica or Mike for VPI as they both want the same things but have different viable approaches, Stephan for VPEd as Birnbaum is only running for shits and giggles, and Carly for VPOF because FUCK YOU BEN AND YOUR $45K IPADS.

    2. Myth 1: Talking to Board is not student consultation.

Myth 2: Saying they've been used 4000 times gives you no idea of how they've been used. I personally tried them out a couple times but never found them of use. I'd be very interested in seeing more details about their usage.

Myth 3: SLEF money is student money. And SLC surplus may not have come from students, but it is controlled by students and could be used towards projects they care about.

    3. Response to your Dumbass Response 1: The board is made up of students. Students elected the exec. The exec represent the students.

Response to your dumbass response 2: Failed logic; Because you don't like them, they must suck.

Response to your dumbass response 3: SLEF money is controlled by students. If students didn't want it, they wouldn't have voted in favour of it during the SLEF disbursement. SLC Surplus is controlled by several groups, most of which are your elected officials.

If Feds consulted everyone on everything, why would we bother having elections? Also, nothing would get done.

    4. 1. Board members aren't representative of the student population and are not expected to act as such. They can agree to something, but it doesn't mean it's what students want. Therefore, not general student consultation.

      2. Not failed logic, but simply asking for more details. Raw numbers don't tell the full story.

3, The "myth" that was busted was that the kiosks didn't come from student money, which is what the response directly addresses. Your response actually backs that up by pointing out that students are in charge of those funds.

    5. Response to your dumbass response to 7.b's response 1: 7 students, and the students don't actually represent students, but they represent the corporation.

Response to your dumbass response to 7.b's response 2: It isn't failed logic. The usage reports do not count how many times students have found their way to where they want to go, they just count how many times students have tapped the big shiny touchscreen surface. It is flawed to base their relevance on that simple stat.

And I don't know enough about SLEF to provide input on the third response.

    6. It is literally not the Board's job to represent students. Every director is expected to do what is best for the organization, above and beyond what is best for themselves or ANY constituents.

Council represents students in theory, but an entirely acclaimed Council isn't worth much IMO.

Consultation ultimately isn't that big a deal though. The exec were elected, so they should lead. That said, *some* effective consultation is always important.

  12. Chris, Maaz, Birnbaum, and probably Ben for vpof but still not sure on that one.

Chris because the guy is an all around gem. I know him well and trust his work ethic, and his platform is exactly what I would have asked for, its like he read my mind. He is 100%.

Maaz because although he isn't very strong in all areas of the portfolio, he is still the strongest of all the candidates and he has experience and will hopefully be able to brush up on the areas he was weaker at this year since he won't have the steep learning curve. Overall he is also a very agreeable guy to work with so he's my pick for in.

Birnbaum because I agree with the premise of his protest campaign and because I think Stephane didn't represent the student body well over the past year. Lots of things were decided privately and as a matter of personal opinion rather than trying to find out what the students want and publicizing decisions.

And for vpof, I don't know because I have had mediocre experiences interacting with Carly outside of campaigning, and because Ben has the experience but he also has that black spot on his record from the mappedin kiosks. I think I'm leaning towards Ben because he is a decent guy and knows his finance stuff very well, he also is very aware or how the kiosks were received and so I don't think we are at risk of a repeat situation with him.

  13. Well, keeping in mind votes are rankings...

Prez: Chris > Baiju > Paula
Chris *really* has his shit together and seems to really care about the student body. Baiju seems less prepared but that's better than Paula who has convinced me that she had even less clue how to do the job than Danielle. Would rather not have another repeat of that trainwreck...

    VPEd: Stephane > Birnbaum
I mean, is this even a question? The latter is running as a joke candidate and wasn't even *funny*. Rhino had to work for my vote, damn it.

VPIn: Matt > Jessica > Mike > Maaz
Matt is the only candidate that a) seems to genuinely care about mental health issues, clubs funding, etc. and b) does not have an ego problem so he's actually prepared to listen to the qualified people to help him reach the right solutions. Jessica is a bit of a one-track candidate, but I'd rather her get a few important things done than see nothing happen at all this year. The purple guys weren't even active half the campaign period and didn't bring anything interesting to the table imo, and even though I voted Maaz last year, I don't want to keep him. Largest achievement was more prayer space on campus, which wasn't well-advertised. Like, I know what that was all about. Pandering to the MSA. It's purported to be "multi-faith" but I really don't feel comfortable using it as a non-Muslim :|

    VPOF: Carly > Ben
    MAPPEDIN KIOSKS. ENOUGH SAID.

    1. Umm Maaz started Co-op Connection, Clubs Support Team, is working on Volunteer Database, and WalkSafe. Not to mention Fall Welcome Week had a kickass carnival and an SLC Arcade all week. If you don't know shit, don't say anything. Makes you sound like an ignorant dumbass

      Delete
    2. You realize Maaz was a coordinator for the Campus Response Team, right? A proponent for mental health awareness on campus? He also increased funding across the board for services and clubs. I feel like you're just making shit up.

    3. Thanks for this great defense of your teammate, Team Fusion!

    4. 16a: Maaz did not start the Co-op connection. That service proposal was being considered before he came into office.

If he's had 8 months to work on a clubs db, why is it still not done? This isn't hard, people.

I don't give a shit about carnivals I'd never attend. Glad you enjoyed it, though.

Re: mental health, Maaz stepped aside and let Danielle handle that entire portfolio, which has been an utter disaster. CRT is emergency first aid, not mental health support. They have no mental health training. As someone who has been trying desperately to make progress on mental health support on campus, Maaz was no friend of mine.

As I said above, he had my vote the first time. He really didn't deliver on the things I think matter, especially given mental health was such a big issue that year. Thus, I won't reward him with another vote.

    5. I COMPLETELY agree with one of your points, 16. As a non-muslim I feel extremely uncomfortable using the "multi-faith rooms".

  15. I'm not entirely sold on Gold, but what I do know is that Fusion is the worst possible option, I'd rather have a group of people who literally do nothing because that'd be better than how bad Fusion could possibly fuck up.

  16. I'll be voting Chris, Maaz, Stephane (because fuck Birnbaum) and still deciding on Carly or Ben.

Chris has his shit together for Prez.

Maaz has been working on many different areas and I want to see them succeed (and tbh, the others will just fuck it up royally)

Stephane because David is a fucked joke as is the entire EngSoc group.

Carly is good. ben is good. Neither really gets me interested. MappedIn Kiosks are good and bad. Could have been a better deal, those MappedIn guys really sold it. Carly seems to have ideas, but I don't know if she has the knowledge.

  17. Birnbaum 2015. It's time to clean up student government.

  18. Carly comes off to me as a rancid gust of air; distinct and discernable from what we currently have, but unpleasant all around. Any assumption that she’s running for students is a farce. At least Birnbaum doesn’t put lipstick on his steaming pile of a campaign.

Lets not, and say we didn’t.

  20. whoever will let part time students opt in to the bus pass! we have to pay full price right now ($80/month)

  21. I'm not voting for anyone, because I know that no matter who I vote for, they aren't going to do anything significant, just like the last three times I voted.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Baiju for pres, only because I do not like some of Chris's proposals, Chris is a strogner candidate in my eyes though, and is a very close second.

Jessica for VPI, as she seems to have the drive to fix a very broken system, which is something none of the other candidates for any position really have. Not to mention the most recent debate showed how Maaz did not do a good job of implementing the Clubs Library such that CTRL-A is pulling its backing from it. (CTRL-A pulled its backing on the library at its Monday Meeting at 5:30pm)

Stephane for VPEd, Birnbaum is a joke and should be taken as such.

Carly for VPOF, as Ben signed off on the giant ipads, and as such does not deserve reelection.

  23. 26, we all know you're Jessica. Because no one else gives a shit about CTRL A or the Clubs library besides you.
