OMG: Is there a film society on campus? Or some kind of movie appreciation club? If not, would anyone be interested in starting one with me?

  5. Film? You mean like the stuff that grows on your bathroom wall or the stuff you put on windows to stay warm in the winter?

  6. Yesss. I go to the movies every Tuesday. This club would be awesome.

  7. I know there used to be film screenings out in ECH every month or so, but I'm not sure if those still run or not.

We absolutely need a film club!

  8. I think a film club is a great idea, I would be interested.

What is your idea for the structure of the club, though? Would you do it similar to a book club with a required movie to watch every (week, or every other week), then hold a mediated discussion?

You could also arrange a monthly trip to see a film or something.

  9. My major is Film Studies and I would definitely join if this was a thing! Make it happen!

  10. I'd be so down to join this!

Only foreseeable problem is that you wouldn't be able to advertise events unless the movie was public domain, or if FEDS has rights to advertise and give public viewings of it (assuming it would be a registered club). That would limit the club to a very limited number of films.

  11. This would be awesome! I could see it in a book club style. People watch the movies on their own time, and the meetings are for discussions. I would join!

  12. OP: Guys, I love that there is so much interest in this!

I haven't really thought about how it could be structured yet. And there are definitely issues with having film screenings on campus. But this can all be discussed and resolved!

I created an email specifically to contact people about this club.
So for anybody interested in joining the club or helping to start it, I'd really appreciate it if you can email me at:
    cfilmclub1@gmail.com

I hope to hear from you guys soon! :)

    1. If you want to start an official club, you should submit your application with Feds now. That way you can be approved first thing in the new year and be able to get a booth at Clubs Days to recruit more people. Plus you get up to $75 a term to spend. I am so down for this. Make it happen! Sometimes clubs like this have existed previously. If that is the case you might be able to just re-start the club with minimal work.

  13. I was thinking about starting a book club, but everyone has such different ideas about what a good book is. Hopefully it'll be easier for movies!

  15. While not a club, there's HIST 200. A majority of films are quite boring but it is pretty interesting to see the progression of film over the years.
