OMG: everyone always says "don't live with friends" but i've been living with friends all fall term and it's been really nice and peaceful.

  1. Maybe I've just lucked out but any time I've lived with friends it's been GREAT. Every time I live with someone that I didn't know ahead of time, they always end up being someone who really gets on my nerves. :(

  2. I've lived with a few different friends, and it really depends on your personality and your friends' personalities. I am relatively laid back, but get bothered when people take over the living room with their boyfriend every night and make me feel like I'm intruding on "date night" in my own home. This spoiled a friendship where I lived with a friend who did this.

I also lived with a friend who never came out of her room. While she did nothing to offend me and we are still friends, we aren't as close simply because she stopped spending any time with me, despite living in the same house.

However, I have lived with friends who have gotten along great. We had a good time and often spent the evenings cooking, playing board games, and watching movies together. It all depends.

    1. Your second friend sounds like she has social anxiety. I would know bc she sounds like me. :(

  3. I don't think people say not to live with friends, I think they just say not to live with friends and expect things to stay the same. Living with someone changes your dynamic and exposes you to different sides of each other. But there's no reason that you can't be friends after living together, I've lived with friends every term and so far no issues.

  4. Like the other posters, I've had it go both ways. I've gotten to the point where I have a pretty good idea of the friends I could and couldn't live with.

  5. Honestly, I was in total agreement with you OP, until I moved in with a bunch of randoms in my second year. We started off as strangers but it turned out we all had a ton of things in common and we ended off the year really good friends.

I guess it all boils down to if your personalities mesh together. I had just met these people and after a couple of months we were really good friends and I could spend hours with them talking at night. I tried to live with people I had known for years and it didn't work out at all.

  6. Living with friends is the way to go in my opinion.
