OMG: Landlord brings guests over for a party from 11pm to past 2pm and expects me not to complain. I was told previous to moving in, that this would be a quiet place. I expect them to uphold their promise, when I continously complain, they threaten to kick me out. Keeps the house temperature at 63 degrees Fahrenheit in the Winter, and complains when I manually turn it on and forgets to turn it off! It should not be my job to maintain the house a reasonable temperature fit for living because you don't know how to auto adjust your heater! Landlord has a tendency to stomp every time they walk and complains about me walking at night. Landlord takes up a whole sink with their "clean" dishes because they're too cheap to get a dish dryer and complains when I leave one or two dishes out for awhile on the cupboard.

  1. Sounds like you live with your landlord? Border agreements suck because you aren't protected under the RTA. All you have is contract law to fall back on. This is why I never recommended living with a landlord, no matter how cheap the rent is. Shit like this happens and you're screwed.

    1. And those contracts get thrown out in court, the vast majority of the time. So basically there's no protection at all.

Living with your landlord? Not even once.

  5. Not all landlords are bad. I lived with landlord's family on coop term in Toronto and they were great. You should ask them lots of questions before settle down to know as much as possible about what kind of people they are.

  6. I'm living with my landlord. Never again. I'm not allowed to have people over, which I respect and go visit friends instead. Whenever she has people over, she asks if I'm going to be around and if I say "yes" she gets all put out, like she expects me to go elsewhere for the evening. I'm paying to live here, not to be thrown out so you don't have to explain that you have a border. She's starting to get incredibly invasive and seems to keep track of what I'm doing, when I'm doing it and where I'll be. If any of my usual schedule gets changed up for whatever reason, I get questioned about it. Like if I shower in the evening rather than the morning, or if I get up early on Saturday for something.
