OMG: I need help but counselling services creeps me out. The angry groper they keep reflects badly on the whole place. Where else I can go in town? What's it cost? Sucks since I kind of pay them and it's urgent.

  1. I have gone to Mosaic Counselling in Kitchener before. It has a great atmosphere, in my opinion. Costs are based on a sliding scale, depending on your income.

  2. There are a lot of complaints about this issue. I wonder if some sort of petition would help. Although, I am reminded of the student who compiled complaints (I can't remember the exact number but I believe it was over 100?) about Health Services employees and brought them to the appropriate person in charge and nothing was done. It's very discouraging.

    1. That's because firing a university staffer is almost impossible.

  3. As #1 said there is mosiac that is pretty good. There is also KW Counselling close to the 200 Ottawa IExpress stop that has the same type of fee schedule.

  4. I haven't tried Mosaic but it's worth a shot if others have had good experiences there. Personally I can't afford anything that isn't free, and UW counselling services sucked in my experience, I don't know who the lady I saw was at the time but she came off as a condescending bitch and made me feel stupid. Now I just see my family doctor every 2-3 months and talk to a couple close friends for support. Hopefully you have someone you feel comfortable enough to talk to about what you're going through between counselling sessions.

  5. I am very sorry to hear that you're not doing well. I realize that a lot of people are upset with counseling services on campus (rightly so), but I've been going to the Health Services location consistently for several months and it's helping me a lot. It's important that you find a counselor that's the right 'fit' for you, even if that means meeting with several different people. For an urgent situation, I wouldn't write off counseling services entirely. In my experience, everyone I've spoken with has been compassionate and understanding--even the ladies at the front desk.

    1. What's different about the Health Services location? Not familiar with the setup.

  7. honestly, I don't know if this will help but when I went to counselling services they asked me if I was okay having a male or female counsellor, or if I wanted to see someone of my own gender. you could probably avoid the angry grooper all together if you just say you'd prefer a female counsellor. I'm assuming you're also a girl.

    1. I'm not comfortable seeing ANYONE at counseling services if that's what's tolerated and what counselors have been taught's fine. What kind of advice can I expect from any of those people if my problem's in any way like what they've learned as a group to accept?
