OMG: I have a job offer for a 1 year contract and an offer to start my masters, which one do I take? I may be able to postpone my masters for a year, but this job will not be available after I finish my masters.

  1. When faced with a dilemma, always flip a coin, since the moment the coin is in the air, you'll know what you really want.

  2. Job. They'll almost always take you back for Masters.

  3. I would say take the job, save some money and then do your Master's. Your Master's will be there but the job won't. Plus it's always nice to have some extra money!

  4. Had a friend who was in this situation. Take the job, postpone the masters. Pretty much agree with 3.

  5. Are you able to postpone your Masters for 1 year? The job will help you save up a bit of money in the meantime and may gain you relevant work experience to the field you're interested in pursuing.

  6. Found out the Masters project is going to be gone if I wait a year, and it is the perfect project I was looking for.

  7. I was going to say job until I read you last post. Which will open more doors for you in the future? What will give you greater satisfaction overall? Would you be motivated to complete a different project a year down the line? Will either help you to determine your career direction?

Hopefully those answers can assist you in determining your next steps.

    1. I think I will go with the Masters. I will be able to start a company with the skills I will learn, and be able to make a lot of money. Companies are already interested in the work I have done on a similar 4th year project. I am not worried about money in the short term, I am actually buying a car next year. The job would be nice, as I would be able to buy a new car instead of used, but I can't see myself working here for the rest of my life.
