There is ZERO excuses for not taking GO Transit. It's $12.32 on Student Discount Presto. Get your GO Transit discount card on QUEST, pickup at Needles Hall. Then get your Presto Card at Turnkey, show them your discount card to get 14-17% off adult fares.
GO was running at 6 express trips for the hour (3:55 to 4:55); 25B, 25C, 25F.
Take 25B/C to Square One, then 21 to Union. OMFG THAT WAS SO HARD!!!
GO Transit ran extra buses on Friday, so it was greater than 6 buses on the hour.
Basically Greyhound has exclusive rights for the toronto to ottawa route so they charge our the ass. They don't have the rights for toronto to montreal. To get around that they offer a package deal for toronto to montreal that includes two tickets: a toronto to ottawa ticket and an ottawa to montreal ticket. Since they actually have to compete with other companies, this is actually cheaper than buying a toronto to ottawa ticket. Just throw away the other one. Go figure.
I've used this to get to ottawa twice, the most recent being in 2012 so I can't guarantee it still works. Though its like the difference between $150 and like $90 for a round trip.
6.a here again. Looked it up and apparently the Toronto to Ottawa trip is much cheaper than I remember it being. Only $77 for a round trip for a weekend when booked a month in advance. I dont recall it being that cheap, but the whole trick I described its pretty useless since its actually more expensive now.
Usually people ask for $15, is much much faster and far more convenient than either Greyhound or GO.
If that's not your thing, there really is no excuse not to take GO. I mean, yeah, it'll take a little bit longer due to the connection, but it's not by much. 1.5-2 hrs vs 2-2.5hrs. For the savings, it's really worth.
or ... you know... just take the GO bus.
ReplyDeleteGo bus nigga
ReplyDeleteDoesn't the GO bus only go to Mississauga?
ReplyDeleteYou can buy a ticket that includes a transfer to whatever bus goes to Union Station/wherever you're going in Toronto.
DeleteBut yeah, there's no Go bus that goes directly to Toronto from Waterloo.
GO Bus to Missisauga, then connect at Square 1 with the GO bus to Union. Still cheaper than Greyhound.
ReplyDeleteOr take VIA Rail. Also cheaper than Greyhound, albeit more limited.

If you are 1st year, I forgive you...
Unless you live in the not-GTA. Brb $40 greyhound / $60 train tickets :'(
Delete5a, OP said they were travelling to Toronto.
Delete5a, you think that's a lot? Try $150 round trip to Ottawa
ReplyDeleteI don't even understand why it is so absurdly expensive to get to Ottawa, short of ride sharing there is no reasonably priced way.
DeleteHowever, there is a trick I used a few years back, you can check if it still works.
