  1. On a related note, why do so many people leave their Macs/Razers/Beats unattended for 30 minutes+ in DC/DP?

I think that if you are willing to take that risk, then you shouldn't be surprised if they end up missing.

    1. This. I've seen so many opportunities in the libraries to steal if I wanted to. I have no sympathy for those who leave expensive items unattended. Is getting up for a $1 coffee more important than your electronics? It just takes SECONDS to have something stolen.

On another note, I find it odd when people ask strangers to watch their stuff. How do you know you can trust them?

    2. @1b

You can get a pretty good guess by looking at their skin colour.

    3. @1a if your stuff goes missing when asking someone to look after it, you already have a good idea of the suspect and a description of them.

  2. Telling thieves not to steal is pointless. They know not to steal things, they just don't care.

I suggest a laptop locking cable if you have to take a piss break. They are pretty cheap and will stop someone from walking away with it in the 5 minutes you are gone.

That being said take anything that is not secured with you.

  4. This is a good opportunity to plug UWPS's serial number database: https://uwaterloo.ca/police/serial-number-reporting-form

Fill it out whenever you buy something that's expensive and has a serial number, it only takes a minute.
