OMG: Just made a web app which offers campus-wide anomyous chatting. http://watchat.ca

- Registeration is restricted to UW students( i.e those who have @uwaterloo.ca email account )
- You can set preferences. For example, you can specify English the language and restrict you peer to be a male.
- Since this app is still in beta version and the amount of users is relatively small, you may need to wait for a few minutes before being matched.
- To get more people involved, please share this app in facebook!
- This app is open-sourced, contribution is welcomed! Link to github repo: https://github.com/Yobretaw/Watchat
- If you have any questions or feedbacks, please send a email to watchat.ca@gmail.com.

    1. Yeah, why not just make a freenode room and not use some random person's app?

  2. Have you checked that your confirmation mailer is properly configured?

    1. Were you able to register? I didn't get an email, and it won't let me register again with the same email.

    2. 3a - It worked fine for me. It looks like the admin is keeping tabs to make things work though, I now see his/her post below (4).

    1. It said I had the wrong password, so I tried to recover password, and it said my account doesn't exist, so I tried to reregister, and it said my email is already in use.

      db.users.update({name:"Semicolon"},{$set:{status:"active"}});

  5. Why do you ask gender/why is it gender binary?

    1. Because the number of people who suffer from gender dysmorphia is so extremely low that expecting everyone to facilitate them is ludicrous.

    2. 5a, it's not that hard to add an 'other' line, or a 'prefer not to say' line.

Or you could just not ask gender, because who cares?

      Delete
    3. 5b it is completely rational to think many students would want to use this for meeting people to hook-up. that is why gender would probably matter to most people.

    2. ^ Not ransphobic. I give no shits of your gender. Just stop with trying to change everything to suit you guys. Just tired of all this PC bull.

    3. 6b are you the same fool who said "don't ask, don't tell" about homosexuality?
Listen, I'm not a particularly PC person at the best of times. But I'm not suggesting we update everything to include 'MtF, FtM, Androgynous,' or any of the other many, many options that people use to describe their gender these days.

But it's not unreasonable to include an 'other' line, seeing as this is the 21st century and we should be past this shit already. Especially at Waterloo, where there's a very prominent, well-defined trans community who get excluded by binary choices like this.

Keep it simple and painless. Go for the trinary choice.

    4. I'll apologize for calling you an idiot. Thank you for being reasonable. I do support adding an other category.

    5. Good call 6c, every word. And this gets off to an ignoble start. Really not feeling like talking with these other people, sorry.
