OMG: I'm being racially discriminated against by my roommate and their friends whenever they come over to my apartment.
They mock me while they know I'm in my room and within earshot, and yesterday left a hurtful graffiti on my desk while I was out and my room was open.
Let me be clear that I don't expect every person I meet to like me. But what I do expect is the same amount of respect that I give to others. You may think that I'm funny, but do you have to make me feel hated in my own apartment?
I never did anything to them and cannot understand why I am being bullied like this. I have been reduced to tears. I have never felt so unwelcome before, and now I have to spend a year at the same place.
That sounds terrible :(
ReplyDeleteI'm not condoning their acts of racism, but maybe you did do something to the roommate without realizing it? It might help to confront the roommate and just politely ask if there's something going on between the two of you, and if so, if there's something you can do to reduce the hostility you're feeling. (Try not to accuse him/her or get angry though) It might clear the air a bit so that you guys can at least be civil toward each other.
If you're on res you can asked to be moved etc. If you're off campus report it to the landlord that is actually illegal under the Human rights code etc. And if you feel it is a "poisoned environment" you can go. OP, what are y'all races to provide some context.
ReplyDeleteIf you're in res, report it to campus police. You're not the one who needs to be moved out.
Deleteyou need to report this to your landlord, or if your living in residence report it to them. Racism is never okay
ReplyDeleteare you sure they're being racist?
ReplyDeleteIf this is on campus, go talk to campus police. If not, speak to your land lord. Also, try talking to your roommate?
ReplyDeletePersonal question as well, what race are you vs them? Was the remarks aimed actually at your race or general insults?

ReplyDeleteIf you are all uwaterloo students, the school can definitely get involved. You have human rights, you don't have to put up with their behavior.
ReplyDeletePunch one of them in the face.
ReplyDeletePunch one of them in the face.
ReplyDeleteIm with punching in the face
ReplyDeleteWhat's your race please? Not asking for negative reasons
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly what the Off-Campus Housing office is for! They're in the lower level of the SLC, they should be able to offer you advice as to what to do. I'd also get in contact with your landlord to see if there are any stipulations in the contract that deal with this.
ReplyDeleteThis is terrible. Why are you roommates with someone like that!?
ReplyDeleteA lot of people (if not most people) sublet rooms in houses/apartments shared with randoms. I've done it tons of times.
DeleteFor some reason I would find it funny if OP turned out to be white. Probably because this would never happen.
ReplyDeleteI am not being a bitch or something, but are they white?
