OMG: If I'm complaining about being behind with homework within the first 2 weeks of university, how the hell am I supposed to get through the next 4 years?

  1. You'll either learn to be okay with being perpetually behind, or you'll develop better time management skills. University isn't just about learning academic material, it's a time for personal growth and learning about yourself, too.

  4. The first couple weeks can be tough. Once you get a good schedule going and adjust to the workload, you'll be fine.

  5. Grit your teeth, find a way to make the workload work for you, and accept that this is what will be taking up the majority of your time for the foreseeable future.

  8. My experience is that once you fall behind, it's really hard to catch up again. Solution: don't fall behind. Do at much as you can every night and on weekends. Go to office hour for help. UW is definitely not a party school and if you are good enough to be accepted, then you can do your courses if you put enough effort in.

  9. It's just the second week of your undergrad. It's not unusual to either feel like or actually be behind in your homework. University is much more challenging than the average high school experience, so don't get down on yourself for feeling challenged. There are resources you can use, like the Student Success Office, but most likely you just need time to get in the groove. It's important to have realistic expectations though, and as long as you're not really struggling, you'll pull through.

  10. hey don't panic too hard. i think everyone feels overwhelmed first year. i struggled a lot with this but just remember that it will get better. you'll be able to fix your time management skills once you learn how university works. try to stay on top of readings and assignments as they come at you so they don't just pile up and leave you with mountains of work to do all at once. you aren't alone in this experience, we have all dealt with this at some point or another, and there are resources at the school designed to help you deal with this sort of thing. hang in there :)
