OMG: People in Imprint need to stop giving flak to student who walk in to get the refund. It's really not any of your business how people choose to spend their money and really, if you wanted people to value the paper more, that's your job.

  1. When was the last time anybody held a referendum on the Imprint fee? Someone should make this happen.

    1. it is a FEDS administered fee, so it would need to be a referendum through FEDS
the FEDS council meeting on sunday has an item to hold a referendum on the fall reading break, somebody should try and get this on there too so that they could happen at the same time

    2. 1a, strictly speaking, that's not true. It's not a Feds (and it is 'Feds,' not 'FEDS' when you're writing it, btw) administered fee, but Feds would be responsible for holding the referendum. This is because the Imprint Fee is a 'student ancillary fee,' which means it's administered to students by the University Board of Governors WITH the approval of the official student union.

      Student Ancillary Fees include:
-The Student Society Fees (IS Feds administered)
-The Health and Dental Plan Fee (IS Feds administered)
-The UPASS Fee (IS Feds administered)
-The Student Refugee Program Fee (IS Feds administered)
-The Imprint Fee (is NOT Feds administered)
-The WPIRG Fee (is NOT Feds administered)

  3. Imagine if in society we chould choose how much in tax we pay depending on the services we wanted.

The university society runs on fees to provide anything outside of the learning experience.

    2. 3, your reasoning is flawed. Most taxes aren't optional. The Imprint Fee is.

There are certain ancillary (non-tuition) fees you can't get back, sometimes because they were set up that way (like the student services fee, or the bus pass fee), and sometimes because the law says they can't be refundable (like your student union - Feds - fee). But other than that, your fee is refundable, as long as you understand that you're opting out of the benefits that come from paying it. And if it's not possible to track whether or not you're using those services anyway... then that's the organization's problem.

  4. Maybe if the Imprint wasn't shit, people wouldn't go in to get their refund.

    1. +1. The fucking COMICS. In all my 4 years not a single comic hasn't been cringeworthy.

    2. ^Except for 'irresponsibly optimistic.' I always laughed at those. But maybe I have no sense of humour.

  5. Yeah! I'm sorry I don't want to pay for something I don't use. What a preposterous concept!

    2. That exact argument works both ways. If it's "only" 3 dollars to us, its "only" 3 dollars to them.
