OMG: MODs I am don't know what the hell is going on but I am sick of seeing people's names in comments. I am sick of seeing derogatory words used in the comments. I have seen way too many homophobic slurs.
I've been thinking the same thing lately. I've been a regular visitor to this site since it was barely a year old, but the standard of moderation has really fallen. There was a time when mentioning ANY person by name (who wasn't a public figure - local politician, world leader, etc.) would get a comment deleted. These days, if you piss off the wrong person IRL you'll get attacked online here whether you like it or not.
It's the MODS' website, and I can't tell them how to run it - but this just isn't right.
@7.a Have you ever been to 4chan? lol it has a better community than OMGUW - assholes and "faggots" (as in "OP is a faggot") get called out and otherwise they don't give a fuck who you are. (Although if you're black you should probably avoid /pol/)
Yeah... the hate speech really crosses a line in my opinion. I mean, letting people express their opinions is all well and good, but there's a point where you have to step in and say "this is driving people away." I'd rather read a larger handful of complaints about supposed "MOD censorship" than racist/homophobic comments.
"Then do something to try and change things for the better" should be the answer to someone complaining about a toxic environment. Not "get used to it." Apathy is never the answer.
I don't care how toxic this site is, as long as the god damn names in the comments (with the exception of well-known or local public figures) stop. That crap is unacceptable.
Awww princess

ReplyDeleteso your bottom line is marketing/popularity, not to drive people away? and I think 7b's an adult able to self-censor.
