OMG: Anyone think UW would consider re-opening the tunnels after the student got hit by lightning?

  1. well, the likelihood of robberies and rapes and stuff will be much higher, compared to a tiny likelihood of being hit by lightning, so probably not

    1. There used to be service tunnels open many years ago. Then UW locked them for good, so I'm assuming only plant ops people have access to them, but students don't. Here is the link to the story. http://matt.wandel.ca/tunnels/tunnels.html

  3. As far as I know, there is no tunnel connects from SLC to residence buildings. I think UW should consider open one, which would also benefit surviving students in winter.

  4. The service tunnels were never open to students. BS myth that's been debunked many times over.

    1. I was going to mention this. The only tunnel to/from V1 is a service tunnel, so unless the university does a lot of work and completely remodels them, I expect they will remain off-limits to students.

  5. I've been inside the tunnels. Trust me, there are better ways of getting around campus.

    1. Not if you're in the Arts buildings all the time. And I wouldn't complain - you can get from MC all the way to DWE without going outside. I've done it many a time in the winter and I'm grateful for the buildings that are connected not only by tunnels.

    2. There are the tunnels that 8 is talking about called service tunnels that carry the steam pipes and then there are the pathways that connect buildings which are more covered pathways than anything else.

  9. No. Don't want to get killed? Don't go out during thunderstorms. Or hide underneath a tall object.

  10. This was a freak accident and I'm not sure we should be treating it as anything more than that. The tunnels in my opinion are scary and dangerous.
