It depends. If you're living in a condo that has a no pets policy you can get into trouble, but if you're renting from a private landlord the Ontario Residential Tenancies Act negates any clauses prohibiting pets. If the landlord wanted to do something about it they would need to file a bunch of paperwork with proof that the pet was causing significant damage or causing allergic reactions for the other tenants /etc.
It's the exact same thing with student housing. However, it can be easier to kick you out if one of your roommates complains due to allergies, etc.
Also I don't know about you, but I wouldn't trust most random roommates to be around my pets. If you're moving with friends though, that's a different story.
nothing. the cockroaches and i are on good terms

ReplyDeleteThis is the answer.
Delete2 is right! The landlord can't evict you for having a pet
DeleteWhat about student housings in waterloo? eg Domus, KW4rent
Delete@2c student housing is treated no differently, and is fully governed by the Residential Tenancies Act.

I've decided to move to luxe just because of this issue.. I feel so free now that I'm out of Domus the shittest housing ever
Deleteif your roommates are cool with it (and dont complain to landlord) you're fine
ReplyDeleteDon't bring your pet. You will cause other people a lot of nuisance and they can be very annoying for people who don't really like pets.
ReplyDeleteWhat if it's a cat? I'm moving into a 2 bedroom place with my boyfriend and he's 100% okay with it.
