OMG: Don't you hate it when profs refuse to release their exams year to year? It sucks to have nothing to study from...

  1. Don't hate it but it is a little annoying yeah

  2. They are probably reusing exams because they are lazy and only want to spend time on research.

    1. Yeah but research is a lot more important that your class. Furthermore, there's nothing wrong with re-using an old exam.

To the OP: why don't you just study what you learned throughout the semester? If you're looking for practice problems re-do assignments, look in textbooks etc.

    2. Probably true that they're too lazy to make new questions. Honestly, they could just change some numbers and it'd be a completely new question.

@2(a): Thanks for the advice lol. Got through 3 years of eng fine, just getting a little lazy these days!

  3. If we think about it from the professors' perspective, it's way easier for them to reuse their old exams. Can't say for other courses but this especially holds true for courses in Biology, Chemistry and Biochem where the material has hardly changed over the years (at least at undergrad basic level, where we're mostly learning about principles and laws) and it's hard for them to come up with various ways of testing the exact same thing. I mean you can only test something in so many ways.. there would be a time when you'd run out of ideas.

  4. I've never had the prof release old exams

  5. I don't get what the big deal is. Learn the material from class well and you'll do fine. No one is at an advantage or at a disadvantage. If I were a prof I would not release old tests either. What's the point?

  6. You should be studying to learn the material, not to just pass tests.

    1. I hate the amount of condescension that is in posts like this. Why do you think you have the authority to decide the reasons behind why someone studies?

In an ideal world, everyone should like the courses they're taking, but people are often forced to take courses they have no interest in whatsoever.

    2. Because if you just learn the material, you'll pass the test, not to mention that it's pretty easy to guess what 75% of the test is going to be. So even if you are simply studying just to pass the test, you still shouldn't need previous years exams to figure out the majority of what's going to be on it.

    3. Sometimes, it's the format and not the material that's the iffy part. It's always nice not having to go in blind about the prof's testing style... especially when it's a design course... Exam bank just makes a life a little smoother!

  7. I sympathize with the profs on this one.

  8. @7a - "forced to"? Please provide a picture of the gun to somebody's head that will splatter their brains on the wall behind them unless you take that course.

    1. You sound so smart by pointing out semantics. Really, you do.

I had to take a required economics course this term even though I'm in a field of engineering that has nothing to do with economics. I had no interest in said course, and do not wish to retain what I learned in the course for the future.

Also, learn to use the reply function.
