OMG: To the selfish people who "save" their cubicle in DC by leaving their notebook and laptop chargers when they go for lunch/class: if you're not going to use the study space you should let someone else who actually needs it use it!

  1. I left the cubicle for 5 minutes to take a photocopy of something jackass

nobody leaves behind valuables for a long period of time

    1. I've seen people leave for an hour+ during exam times. But I agree, generally, most people (with common sense) don't do this.

  2. the only time i leave my laptop charger, some hundred dollar textbooks, old cellphone from eons ago behind is when i'll be back shortly (read: gotta take a shit)

so if you aren't cool with that, you're free to come find me in the cubicle and i'll show you a piece of my mind

  3. chuck their shit on the floor. then stare at them when they come back and you're sitting in the seat

  4. move their stuff to the lost and found, or bring it to the front desk. Then claim ignorance and say nothing was there when you arrived.

    1. this is such a passive aggressive approach

you ought to get your ass kicked

the library actually allows a grace period of 30 minutes (hence those slips saying your stuff will be removed if you don't return in 30)

    2. no need to be a masked vigilante serving justice to the citizens of DC library. There are people who are assigned to hand out slips and manage the whole thing.

  5. In DC, if you've noticed stuff sitting there unattended for over 30 minutes and the library is really busy, you can let the people at the front desk know and the library monitor will give them a warning and eventually can remove stuff to the lost and found. or remove it yourself. they deserve it for their ignorance.

    4. I don't know if you're trying to just get a rise out of people, but this is actually commonplace in mainland China. The roommates of someone I know in China would get to the library right when it opened, save all of their spots with coats and things, and then leave for breakfast.

Once this person in question left her things at the library, and left to eat or something, and when she came back other people were sitting at her place! She ended up getting in a yelling match with them and they backed down and let her have the spot. So I think this sort of thing is deemed "acceptable" over there.

  7. OP: I'm referring to those who leave for 50+ minutes (ie class or lunch). Its cool if you went to take a shit in the washroom for 20 mins. I'm referring to the cubicles occupied with notebooks and other invaluable items for long periods of time while other people are walking around searching for one.
