OMG: I see all these people posting about the Palestine and Israel conflict, and Israel targeting citizens. I understand the situation is terrible, but I'm starting to dislike the people who are just jumping on board posting the next "gruesome" image acting like they are extremely righteous. I get that they want to raise awareness but I don't think they are aware themselves, its just another trend for them to jump on like Kony.
I feel like it demeans the whole situation. They won't care for long, and hop off the bandwagon and move on to the next big thing. And most of the people I know aren't actually doing anything but just personally condemning it and posting articles, pictures, and tweets. We know there is a situation, but what are YOU actually doing to help it other than just spamming everywhere and trying to make yourself look and feel better.
I probably sound like a douchebag right now but I see this happening all the time with various tragedies around the world and within a couple of days or weeks those same people just stop caring.

  1. The conflict there has been going on for many decades. There is a crowd that cares a lot about it, and they don't just stop... this isn't a fad like Kony and I can tell that you don't know much about it because you compared it to Kony.

Did you see people defending Kony back in 2012? This is more than just the call for public outrage, it's a massive conflict of information. There are two sides to it, not just one.

  2. The only thing that anyone without power can do is raise awareness. Raising awareness is what forces those in power to actually do something. I'm personally not even a fan of marches or walks for this sort of thing, but nothing will change unless public outcry forces it to change. That's the way the world works.

    1. If politicians cared about what trends on young adult facebook feeds then the OP would probably not be complaining. It would be better if people instead of posting on facebook would write their MPs or the Israeli government or something.

  3. You do sound like a douchebag - people care and are finally learning a little more than they would have about the situation. My heart goes out to the Palestinians that have endured this for so long and will probably have to continue enduring it for some time...

  4. Easiest solution to this conflict is for Palestinians to stop lobbing rockets out of Gaza. This would tend to NOT trigger an Israel bombing response. Ever one goes away happy...

    1. This would not make everyone go away happy. Palestinians will still be stuck in their little open air prison. Nothing will happen if they don't fight for it.

    2. 4a or they could just hand over what rightfully belongs to Israel.

    3. 4b is one of those people that thinks jews have a god given right to own the land in that entire region.

Sorry buddy who do you think you're fooling? Only side here even capable of taking over land is israel, and they have done so illegally numerous times to build Jewish only settlements.

    4. 4c and? What's your point? Where else do Jews have to go in today's world? If you'd been rejected by communities the world over for 4000 years and the subject of numerous attempted mass-genocides, you'd probably be pretty protective of your ancestral lands, too.

    5. What's my point? LOL

Dude, you just implied that you think it's okay for israel to steal land that legally isn't theirs because of a belief that it is theirs. Don't play that victim card shit right now it's really pathetic.

If i took your house and said hey listen my holy book tells me this house is mine and I've been evicted several times from my own living arrangements so it's justified, that would sound pretty fucking retarded wouldn't it?

Nobody falls for that shit anymore, you're better off not playing the victim card at all if you want to be taken seriously.

    6. @OP: You probably don't know jackshi* about the issue or you're just Zionist scum. A cockroach has more worth than a Zionist.

True Judaism rejects Zionism. Israel is and forever will be an illegal terrorist state. I await and pray the day when God will shower his punishment on the Osraeli oppressors

  5. I think posting Facebook statuses is a better use of time, compared to creating an anonymous post on OMGUW criticizing those who do so. What have you done to create a solution to the problem?

  6. It's a rather complex conflict, and sadly an overly-politicized one. Students, by and large, tend to be fairly strongly pro-Palestine. I have family who lives in a very Jewish neighbourhood in Toronto, and it's not unusual to see pro-Israel rallies there.

The truth is, neither side is able to stand on the moral high ground. This conflict, like many (but arguably not all) really has no "winners." Only a lot of death and tragedy.

    1. Palestine has the moral high ground theoretically, but that doesn't mean much as they end up committing atrocities just like the other side practically.

    2. I don't really see them wanting ownership of their pig-sty as a high moral ground over an actual nation which can build infrastructure there and protect its people. Eventually, the inability of Palestine to cobble together much of anything has to count for something.

  7. OP I understand your opinion.
I hope everyone recognizes that you can criticize slactivism and still be an activist yourself. Or not be one, as you choose.
