OMG:
I'm not happy with my life. Do I even have a life? I wish I hadn't chosen my major (Philosophy). Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it and learned a whole lot, but I now see that it's not practical. I am jobless and my parents hate me now. I try not to compare myself to other people, but it's hard not to. I see some of my peers who're doing much better than me and in big careers. Here I am, with nothing to show. I need a rewind button.

  4. Why did you go into philosophy in the first place?

  5. Ah well, maybe if you had chosen a different path you would feel like a sell-out and wishing you had more free-time. Could maybe learn some skills (languages?) and try to do some freelance stuff online? The clock is ticking more against your parents that against you, so most likely they will eventually forgive you, specially if you try to be as open and ernest with them as possible.

  6. see if your interested in post grad diplomas at a college (sheridan, seneca etc), Iv'e had a lot of friends who did an arts major and were in the same position and were pretty successful after doing a one year program there because it includes a co-op which helped them get a job in the future (not sure if you did co-op or not) goodluck! :)

    1. Great suggestion, I know people in Science who did this as well. :)

If your marks are good, maybe you could try for an MBA or MPA (policy), I have heard of people taking that route as well.

Go on Google/LinkedIn and look for people who've also completed BAs a few years before you (especially at schools which are more well-known for Arts, such as Queen's and McGill, and see what they've done with their degree, and see if you can plan a similar trajectory. It may take time and a few years' worth of hard work, but you will get there. Best of luck! :)

    2. Thats not his fault... If he is unhappy with his choice (excluding parents' opinion), then he needs to do something to change it... you can take this as a learning experience and do something completely different. You want to enter Math/CS, do that, you want to do accounting, just get CPA, law school... the list goes on.

Fuck your parents, you have the ability to change your position only if YOU want to.

    3. ^ His parents might have paid for his education. I can see why they might be pissed if they've spent all that money and he's done nothing with himself.

  12. dear person, unfortunately/fortunately we are forward facing beings. the future will come for us whether or not we choose to let it. in face of this inevitable reality, stay strong, don't close your eyes, and don't let your opportunistic future become a regrettable past like how you feel about your academic choices right now.
