OMG: I didn't get paid for co-op last term and I managed to live on $500/month. Thankfully I found a paid co-op for next term and I will be getting 4.5k/month. Any idea how to spend the money wisely/ what to spend on?
Yeah, $500 on top of rent is definitely not a problem, especially for 4 months - my entire year's average is <~ $1000/month, including rent, books, and the occasional bigger (but not overly big) expenses.
Make sure you are not the person turning down events because of price, unless its actually not worth it. Always try to eat well, eating healthy is more expensive. Pay off any debt. After this, set aside money for different things: 1) enough to fully pay for tuition and rent for next term 2) $1500 for when your laptop dies randomly 3) a bike, its amazing how awesome it is to bike to campus 4) rent for next co-op
If you still have more money and want to spend it wisely
5) something nice for yourself like an iPad or new phone 6) tuition and rent for another term in case you dont get paid next co-op 7) start saving for a trip that you will one day be asked to go on so you don't have to turn it down simply because you don't have the money.
Tuition, living expenses, rainy days.

ReplyDeletepretty sure you can qualify for some scholarships if you don't get paid co-ops.
ReplyDelete"managed to live on $500/month" I sure hope you mean including rent, because you make $500/month sound like such a huge struggle.
