OMG:
I am currently re-negotiating my cell phone plan. I just want to say a huge FUCK YOU Stephen Harper and your stupid changes to cell phone contracts that have opened up an excuse for the phone companies to charge me so fucking much for a basic plan with some data.
All I want is 1-2GB of data, unlimited text, and like 100 minutes or something for my s/o and I. And they all want to charge us at least $110. BULLLLLSHIT.
Ehh -- I've got a similar plan and I'm paying about $50 after tax (1G data, not a retention plan). To add another line to my account is about $20 extra.
ReplyDeletewell, i guess it's time to drop the 1-2gb of data l0l
ReplyDeleteI have a 98 dollar plan and I only pay 55 a month with Rogers (been with rogers for over 4 years, and am not on contact, and brought in my own phone).
ReplyDeleteUnlimited Canada wide call and text. 100 text to US. Service package. 2 GB data. Keep calling customer retention until you get something from a nice agent who knows what they're doing. Took me about 4 tries.
That's why I dropped my smartphone and got a regular phone that I only use for calling. I also have a life now as a result.
ReplyDeleteOP here
ReplyDeleteWe have been with Bell for over 5 years and customer retention always treats us great. But this time around, we have had no luck.
Just go with Wind, $35-40 per month for unlimited calling, texting, and data. Only downside is spotty coverage outside of cities, but it works fine in Waterloo for me.
ReplyDeleteWe live outside of the city...so they won't work.

ReplyDeleteis that a dick in its butt?
DeleteAsk for BYOD plans or a smaller phone subsidy. You'll spend much less in the end. I paid $499 for my phone but I have a $47 plan with Bell. 1GB of data, 1000 nationwide minutes, and unlimited text.
ReplyDeleteCompared to Wind, I'm paying about $200 more in total after 24 months.
...or you buy a used phone, seriously $499 from a store?
DeleteWell...it also depends on the phone you buy. Nexus 5 is $349, flagships are usually $600+.
DeleteYou could get by with a $150 cheap smartphone but that wasn't what I was looking to use for the next 2 years...
That is what we are trying to get and Bell will not let us do it. All their plans are unlimited plans where you add data on top of the price.
Delete8b here. Just keep calling in. You'll eventually reach someone who knows what they're doing.
DeleteIf you're looking for my plan, it's called the Loyalty Talk 30. I got the standard 10% discount from that, and then the rep added $20 for 1GB of data. Ended up being $47.
Just explain what you're looking for, go at it slowly, and you'll eventually come to a compromise.
got a sgs4 on kijij for 200$, that is around the average price range. You can get good phones for cheap, buying from stores is stupid.
DeleteUnl talk, text & data (well, 10 gb fair usage) with Rogers, for just a bit more than I would be paying to wind.
ReplyDeleteThere are plans to be had out there.
How?!?!?
Delete....Please tell me you're being serious and not just trolling us....and then tell us how....
DeleteWhy did you even choose Bell
ReplyDeletefuck the police, fuck eveyr corrupt ass politician, fuck government
ReplyDeleteThe cell phone changes were great - no more three year contracts, unlocked phones from companies quicker, and $50 maximum contract cancellation fees (though that was CRTC's doing, not Stephen Harper's). Also, don't blame the government for the phone bill increases - it's the monopoly the Big 3 (Robelus) have on the phone market and their insistence on focusing on coverage, of one of the largest countries with the lowest population densities.
ReplyDeleteAlso, check out Virgin - they recently had a plan for 100 minutes Canada-wide, unlimited messaging, voice mail, etc. for $30, add in 1gB data for $25 extra
Guess who owns Virgin? Bell. It's just rebranded. Go with Wind if you really want to avoid the oligopoly.
DeleteBell doesn't own Virgin. Virgin operates as a MVNO; uses Bell's network but runs its own show.
DeleteDirectly from Wikipedia: "On July 1, 2009, Bell Mobility acquired the 50% of Virgin Mobile Canada that it previously did not own for $142 million and entered into a long-term agreement to use the Virgin brand."

ReplyDeleteEveryone (the public) complained about three year contracts so the government through the CRTC decided to make those illegal and we now have two year contracts, so the cost of the hardware and the usage which was amortized over three years is now over two years and prices have gone up and they aren't as quick to offer deals anymore when you can call retention or threaten to cancel a service and they also know what the other companies offer and that you aren't going to get a better deal.
ReplyDeleteRogers used to be really bad along with Bell and Telus was good and now I am staying with Rogers as I actually get bit better deal with them.
As for WIND, check to see if you have signal and coverage at home, you just might have coverage, all depends on the tower locations, sadly, Wind will probably be taken over by one of the big guys, they are barely hanging on.
Try to get to your carrier through their social media team. I had an issue with Fido (they attempted to revoke an offer they made to me) - calling their usual customer service and retention channels didn't help. Once I put the matter out there on social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Fido Community Forums), I was able to get some traction (although, in the end, I was only able to get my way by threatening them with a complaint regarding ethics).
ReplyDeleteBe a rebel, go with Wind. I pay $40/month for unlimited nationwide calling, text, and data.
