What, because she claimed the other candidates IT ideas weren't feasible? That was her biggest point. And since the VPOF role has much to do with managing the feds staff, I'm voting Ben since he will work with the staff, and isn't a vindictive jerk.
Heh, I didn't see the debate, but as something who makes a living in the field of IT, FEDS' staff is pretty darn bad. I don't know who hired them but we definitely have students on campus that are more talented who will work for less.
I've tried to recruit people to do IT work before. It's not as easy as it seems. We have a lot of talented people but they are not interested in the type of work feds has to offer.
Okay so we should focus ALLLLLLL our efforts on people who got "diagnosed" with depression and ignore alllllll the hundreds of students who are super stressed and just need a quiet space to sit and think?????? Stfu Nova. Gtfo omguw
'Diagnosed with depression,' isn't the requisite to see a counsellor. This is exactly the sort of thinking that leads to the existing stigma around mental health. Sometimes it's important to check up on your mental health with a professional, the same way we check up on our physical health with a doctor.
What's so unrealistic about it? Aim to have 25% of the cost of large events absorbed by sponsorship. Given how large some of Feds' largest events are, that is a reasonable thing to suggest.
Have you ever tried getting sponsorship before? Businesses hardly give out money these days, and in-kind donations only go so far. There was some photo on facebook that the previous VPOF (AF at the time) said Feds gets $12-15k for events already. Having done sponsorship before for Orientation week, I don't think people in general realize how difficult it is to get money.
After I wrote all that, I did the math on the 25% thing - Feds already gets 25% of the event covered if they get $12-15k. So, while my above point stands about how hard getting sponsorship is, is their platform point something that Feds already does? So does she mean the aim is to get another $15,000 on top of that?
As a former student who has been in charge of sponsorship for many groups on campus (including orientation), I can tell you that sponsorship is not difficult to get if you put the time and effort into it.
On my own, I managed to get $20,000 in 5 months for a student team and $5000 in 2 weeks for a conference. This was all in the last year. If Liz can get 1 or 2 students/staff working with her on this, I absolutely think its feasible.
Alot of Liz's facts at the debate were actually incorrect. One quick example was when addressing the question about digital displays with Feds and citing Plants Ops is the reason for the delay. It's actually not the case, given they completed their end of the job months ago and yet 3 tvs remain blank in the SLC.
Seeing as the amount of students who actually vote in Feds elections is usually fairly low, no you're not the only one. Logically, the people who are the ones who are going to be making posts/comments.
"Am I the only one..." questions are almost always dumb.
according to people i know in double degree, no one in double degree likes Liz. These are the people that she interacts with the most. If they hate her, then it says a lot about her.
As someone who's been in classes with her and worked in a project or 2 i can vouch for this.
She's a bitch and slacks off and expects people to do the work for her. She's pretty ditzy and never contributes any value. She got called out by a prof once for bullshitting numbers and she just stumbled.
She tries every year to get on Feds and I hope people keep on not voting for her (ie Teal got destroyed because of her bad rep last year)
13a, your facts are off. Elizabeth only lost by 8 votes last year - she's not what dragged down Teal. What did Teal in was a platform with lots of flash to it but no substance, a really weak VPED candidate, and a fantastic campaign by Adam that brought his team to victory.
Elizabeth has lots of experience from co-op (where she gets consistently rated very highly), 2 years as a top-level orientation leader, 16 months as mathsoc president (where she had to manage staff/HR-related issues), and plenty of experience on different Feds committees. That's not what lazy looks like.
I've worked with her on projects before and never had this experience. She's always the one putting in extra work to make sure everything is finished on time and looks polished.
Liz is awesome!
ReplyDeleteAnd yet she is easily the most hated of all the candidates.
DeleteWhat, because she claimed the other candidates IT ideas weren't feasible? That was her biggest point. And since the VPOF role has much to do with managing the feds staff, I'm voting Ben since he will work with the staff, and isn't a vindictive jerk.
ReplyDeleteAcross the entire debate, she showed that she knows the job, has unique ideas, and can get things done.
DeleteHeh, I didn't see the debate, but as something who makes a living in the field of IT, FEDS' staff is pretty darn bad. I don't know who hired them but we definitely have students on campus that are more talented who will work for less.

DeleteIf people vote for 'mental health is not a priority' Saleem after today, then they weren't watching the debate.
ReplyDeleteI was on feds council with Saleem. He won't get anything done. He hardly showed up and when he did, he never said anything.
DeleteOkay so we should focus ALLLLLLL our efforts on people who got "diagnosed" with depression and ignore alllllll the hundreds of students who are super stressed and just need a quiet space to sit and think?????? Stfu Nova. Gtfo omguw

Deletea destressing room is a dumb idea
DeleteAs someone who has attempted suicide before I think a quiet, clean, regulated space on campus would help me a lot with my panic attacks.
DeleteHer platform point around sponsorship is misleading and unrealistic.

It works out to ~$30,000, which isn't that much.
ReplyDeleteLiz proved herself to be a micromanager and a dictator in that debate! There's no way in hell I'm voting for her.

DeleteShe's proven herself a micromanager and a dictator in most of her actions, the only person she can work with is Jesse.

ReplyDeletejust because the monitors are mounted, doesn't mean the wiring is done.
DeleteNo, Natasha said that the University via Plant Ops restricts the project to 4 screens/year installation. That's what all candidates were referring to.
ReplyDeletethis is bullshit. they need to push the admin harder. I bet uw stores aren't limited to 4 a year.
DeleteThat's got nothing to do with pushing admin, and everything to do with pushing CUPE, who plant ops is unionized under.
DeleteThe entire team (Nova) looked extremely aggressive, hard to work with and gave off a hitler image. No for Nova for sure
ReplyDeleteHeil, Chairman McGinnis!

DeleteThe only thing that debate told me was that I'm not voting for Danielle. Easy to see her friendly and nice persona from the other debates was an act
ReplyDeleteVote for Moe! The only one of the three that's not an asshole!
DeleteAm I the only one who doesn't really give a shit about this at all?
ReplyDeleteNope.

ReplyDeleteHey, I think we are all forgetting the most important thing here!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth is sexy. I'd totally hit that.
Well...I have to opposite experience when I see her.
