Just witnessed a girl reporting a stolen laptop at DP today. I can't believe how selfish people can be to take something that isn't theirs, especially during midterm time when all her important files were on that laptop. Scum of the earth whoever took it.

Taking anything that doesn't belong to you is selfish, no matter what it is.
As for laptops and other very expensive items, though, there are people that hang around campus that aren't students looking for unattended laptops so they wouldn't care if it's exam time or not.

I sympathize with her loss. That sucks.
But honestly. You really can't leave your laptop unattended. If you need to go to the bathroom etc..
Bring your laptop with you! You can leave your other stuff behind, it is easily replaceable.

I always pack up my stuff even if I just need to go to the bathroom. For sure, I'll lose my spot 90% of the time, but hey you can just go find another place and you won't lose your stuff!! And... never let strangers besides you to "watch your stuff". You don't even know them?! Why let strangers watch your stuff when you are trying to be careful of other strangers stealing your stuff? It baffles me.

I feel sorry for her but this is why it's important to never leave your stuff unattended.
I always take my laptop with me even if I'm just leaving for a second. If you have to go to the washroom, put it in your bag and bring it with you. The stalls have hooks to hang your bags on.
