OMG:
To the person who accidently walked away from the DC ATM without his/her cash... I took the liberty of holding onto it for you and will turn it in at the bank tomorrow. I noted the time and location, so hopefully this will be enough to make it back to you. :)

..Wow. I almost think a better lesson would be learned if you kept the cash.

Normally, I don't like omguw posts bragging about how you did good deeds. But this truly sounds awesome, despite the fact that I doubt CIBC will get the money back to the right person. Good on you, OP.

Wonder if the person will ever get it back...maybe they didn't even realize they're x amount of dollars short. If it ends up in their account again, it'll be like 'hey! free money!' when in fact it was their money all along.

You should have put an ad on the ATM telling the owner to describe the money in order to get it.

How do you know which bank they're with?

OP here.
The amount was pretty sizeable, like $140. Also definitely CIBC since the money was in the ATM (the monitor was at the, please take your money screen).
CIBC in SLC told me it wasn't their ATM, but they'd try to track down the person.
Either way, I felt better in my conscience to return the money than keep it.
