@3: Well it's still an institution and I feel like it wouldn't hurt for them to put a bit of money just to make a decent cemented path there. Our campus is pretty ugly compared to most other schools and they can't even bother putting a decent path there.

^I'm just saying since there is a path there anyway, why don't they just make it look nicer? It's like there's just this ugly dirty path right in the middle of DC quad and they could just make it look nicer.

@1: the correct term for what that path is is a path of desire. In planning, a path of desire is a path created by its use by people, one that was not intended by planners to be a taken route. In general, these paths tend to be more efficient than planned routes, and as such they make sense to become paved pathways.
