It smells like a feds rep wrote this..
The pride parade is a shitload of bologna and it's frankly quite embarassing.

@2 Can't tell if trolling, or just a buzzkill.
Wait a second, so every student at UW has to pay for representation at the gay pride parade, not just the gay students? How is that at all fair? If it isn't worth enough to the gay community to fund it on their own, why should we have to pay?
@2 Whether or not you're trolling, I agree. My gay friend thinks it's embarrassing and wishes they would stop it. He says it has nothing to do with being gay as he sees it...
@5, Not every student at UW has to pay for it. If any one wants to be part of the parade they have to buy a ticket and these tickets fund UW's presence at the parade.
@5, yes just like everything else in life in Canada. University level - wait I never used the Nano Building, shouldn't just nano students pay for it? City level - wait I never use this road, shouldn't just people who use this road pay for it? Country level - wait I rarely get sick, shouldn't sick people pay for their doctors? If you don't like it, move to the states or get real.
Sounds like 2 and 5 (and his/her gay friend) are party poopers. Live a little eh?
It was awesome!! I had the best time. The group that went this year was really great!
LOL yeah I can't tell if 5 is being serious or has wonderfully ironic commentary. 8 already hit the nail on the head, but yeah. I don't use the gym yet I pay athletics fees every semester, for example. We all collectively contribute to a lot of things. The pride parade is one of THE biggest tourist events in the country, and it generates a huge amount of wealth, despite was Rob Ford's wheezing ass would like to think. The ROB FORD would like to battle! The ROB FORD sends out WEEZING Lv. 37!WEEZING Lv. 37!SLOWPOKE Lv. 36!SWALOT Lv. 40!For beating him, you win the FATASSBADGE!
2 here. It's a shitty representation of the gay community as a whole I think. It's wayy too half-naked, rowdy, indecent party stuff that has no meaning and devalues the struggles we faced and continue to face. It's not doing anything to move us forward as a society. And by god, yes I am a buzzkill and I am proud of it!
It's going to be "shitty representation of the gay community" because it's not trying to be gay - it's the queer community's Pride. There's lesbians, dykes, gays, fags, bisexuals, transfolks, pansexuals, polyamorists, etc. This is a party for everyone who's not straight/hetero. If you can't understand the variety of identities people have, it doesn't shock me that you think Pride is meant to be representative of one particular group. This year's theme couldn't have been more perfect: celebrate and demonstrate. Some were celebrating, some were demonstrating, but everyone who wanted to be there was having a great time.
^ Yes.Also @2, moderation (i.e. conformance to hetero, cis, and other hegemonic standards of "decency") is not spectacularly moving us forward as a society either. If freedom from oppression is what you want, what sort of freedom costs submission to your oppressor's whims? If mainstream sensibilities are not accepting of the more radical instances of queerness, how can someone who's "merely gay" feel safe? That's why I'm thankful for the naked, rowdy, supposedly indecent stuff that so rustles your jimmies.
