I agree with OP! I learnt that rule from bambi, the bunny's mom would be like "what did your father tell you?" And he'd move is foot and say "If you have nothing good to say, then don't say anything at all".
Unfortunately, I don't follow the rule, and I end up getting in trouble lol

Good things to say <> Nice things to say. Maybe it should be reworded to "if you've got nothing useful to say...". Criticism is good when it's constructive, and I agree that it's essential. But yes, too many people here get off on trolling. You'd think we'd have better things to do.

OP needs to give validation to what they have been brainwashed to believe: that everyone and everything is good. People have problems, people have difficulties, the strong do take advantage of the weak. That is life, people will do what they want and for you to try to dictate such is futile. Save yourself some time and worry about your own life instead of trying to project your personal values on others. The only one who will get burned is yourself.
