OMG:
Whoever made the Phys 122 exam needs to go fuck themselves. 3 long anser questions, 2 are on the first half of the course covered by the midterm, one on the untested part of the course. 16 multiple choice, all incredibly hard as fuck, each involving more work then the long answer questions. Learn how to make a final exam.

People complaining about first year physics exams make me laugh every time. It's not that I don't sympathize at all, its just really not nearly as big of a deal as you think it is. It's okay, you'll survive, and probably even pass the course.

Yeah, from what I hear first year physics is horrible at UW.

ROFL I just did that exam
easy as shit, are you kidding me?
Did you come from a farm highschool?

LOL complaining about a first year physics course. You are so adorable OP :3

LOL bell curve ftw

@RL
1st year physics is horrible pretty much everywhere as far as I can tell. IMO the whole structure by which its taught just needs to be reworked.

the majority of science courses here are terrible. especially physics and chemistry.

Same shit happened last year. First year physics is terrible and has only gotten worse. Bleh...

@7 especially, hey! I feel obliged to defend my disciplines. I don't know what measure to use for the quality of courses, but if we look at preparedness for grad school I found it at least average, and better than that for quantum mechanics.

@6: Thing is, I remember physics in Russia and it wasn't that bad.
We derived all of mechanics from scratch etc, etc. This was in grades 9-10...

@ RL
I can't really speak for the Russian educational system, what I meant is that although there are issues with the way lower level physics is taught here it's not a UW specifc problem it seems to be true many places.
@7&9
I'm going to have to go with 9 here. There are definitely issues with courses, but to say the majority of them are terrible is a bit of a stretch. From what I've seen/heard Waterloo has the best undergrad quantum physics in Canada, and one of the best undergrad physics programs all around. (Not for medical physics though)

It was the same thing last year, except it was 20 m/c, accountig for 80% of the final. There were 3 long answer, 10% each. Most of my friends who had 90s and 80s from the mditerm dropped the 50s in the course.
Of course they adjusted what the final was marked out of, just like the first term phys, which they marked out of a whopping 175%. Because the fianl could account for 100% of your grade, many people got 100 in the course, and many got 50s,60s,70s. Kind of silly, really.

Looks like not much has changed since I took intro Phys 1 and 2 in first year (4 yrs ago). They make horrible exams with averages of 40-55%, and then curve like crazy. The end result is 60-70 course average, but it's incredibly uneven. A bunch end up with 90s and 100s and many others fail or barely pass.

actually, first year physics for engineering is awesome, as long as you don't have to take the phy course code.
