OMG:
Wow, a lot of people are getting upset by this Marie Curie poster. Did something someone wrote really hurt your feelings that much? By making this a big deal, you're letting the coward who posted these posters win.

this OMG

I greatly enjoyed the call to action on these 'hate crimes', which was all but entirely deflated when UW's own head of police clarified that they were in no way, shape, size or form to be hate speach.

  2. Anonymous Anonymous Says:

How can you come to that idiotic conclusion? You're like the people who say "oh if you just ignore the bully they'll leave you alone".

  3. Anonymous Anonymous Says:

Wrong. By making a big deal about it, we are showing that we are passionate in our disagreement with those idiotic, sexist posters.

If we said nothing, all it would show people was that at the best we didn't care enough about the posters to be outspoken about them or at the worst that we agreed with them.

  4. Anonymous Anonymous Says:

The panel is a farce. It is entirely unrepresentative of the student population. They have collected the few feminists on/around campus and given them a podium to prance around on.
Frankly, so long as it keeps them busy and away from legitimate concerns I will allow it with a civil tongue.

  5. Anonymous Anonymous Says:

It may not be hate speech, but it is slander, and that is illegal.

  6. Anonymous Anonymous Says:

This is one of the most successful trolls I've ever seen. The amount of butthurt over this is just amazing.

I did not realise that people could get so offended over this trivial matter. I am fine with this type of reaction over much more offensive material but the fact it took such a lame and ignorant troll. It makes me wonder what will happen if a really offensive is posted.

  7. Anonymous Anonymous Says:

#5 is a butthurt female. The statement regarding Curie being the mother of the atomic bomb does not fall under the category of slander or libel, due to the fact that is is true. Curie hypothesizes radioactive decay which is the ground work for the rest of nuclear physics and the atomic bomb.

As offensive as you feel the conclusions on the rest of the poster are, that does not make it slander, hate speech or anything else other than a poster you disagree with.

Get over it and stop wasting my fees leading a misandry pow wow with your fellow femnazis

  8. Anonymous Anonymous Says:

    Everyone getting trolled so hard.

  9. Anonymous Anonymous Says:

    @5

Well god created radioactivity, therefore he's the real one to blame for the bombs.

YET CHRISTIANS STILL WORSHIP HIM, WHATS UP WITH THAT?

  10. Anonymous Anonymous Says:

^by your logic, anyone who believes in religion would be in that category.

  11. Anonymous Anonymous Says:

Fine with me, they're all dumber than any woman will ever be.

  12. Anonymous Anonymous Says:

While I agree with your sentiment, specifically by putting this shit on the front of Imprint, which simply gave the bullshit too much attention, I do think it's important to take these kinds of things seriously. Going around demeaning any group and their desire to be politically active is a low blow.

  13. Anonymous Anonymous Says:

The police are searching for whoever did this. It is a hate crime. If this was done to any ethnic group, people would be enraged. Someone discriminated against women. The police are extracting fingerprints from the posters.

  14. Anonymous Anonymous Says:

13 is clearly retarded, and I use that word purposefully to offend as many as possible.

The head of UW police purposefully spent his first 5 minutes talking about how this does NOT constitute a hate crime in any way, shape, size, or form.

"Hate crimes refer to criminal offences that are motivated by hate towards an identifiable group. The
incident may target race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion, sex, age, mental or physical
disability, sexual orientation or any other similar factor, such as profession or political beliefs.

Please note, sexism is not a hate crime. Get over it.

  15. Anonymous Anonymous Says:

Sexism is a form of hate, its just not a crime, just like it is not a crime to discriminate based on race, ability, and so on. Discrimination is rarely a crime. The problem is that the actual crimes are pretty well defined, so having a form of hate be punishable by law is hard.

  16. Anonymous Anonymous Says:

15 your argument is invalid. Stop trying to cling to the false hope that this is actually a hate crime. The cops aren't treating it as such, which is why there is no investigation beyond our own campus police department.

Look into it, in Canada hate crimes DO NOT include genders as a target. This is good old fashioned bigotism.
